_Safe Space Training
In 1996, Kennesaw State University (KSU) became one of the first institutions in the University System of Georgia to add sexual orientation to its nondiscrimination statement. The goal of the Safe Space Initiative at KSU is to identify and educate individuals who will affirm and support all persons regardless of sexual orientation and gender identity/expression. Becoming a Safe Space on campus offers a visible message of inclusion, acceptance, and support to lesbian, gay bisexual, and transgender individuals. KSU faculty and staff can acquire a Safe Space sticker by attending one of the scheduled Safe Space orientations.

Happiness at Work
We live in a nation whose founders cherished “life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.” Although millions of adult Americans spend more time on the job than in any other activity, how many of us find happiness at work?
The focus of this interactive workshop will be discussion and brief informal writing exercises aimed at (1) exploring each attendee’s personal conceptions of happiness and work satisfaction and (2) helping each attendee arrive at a personal plan for achieving happiness at work.
This workshop will begin with a presentation on key findings in happiness studies (yes, there is such a field!), including an exploration of the concept of “gross national happiness.” As Chair of the U.S. Federal Reserve stated in summer 2012, “gauging happiness can be as important for measuring economic progress as determining whether inflation is low or unemployment high” (boston.com).

Ethics in the Workplace
This workshop will begin by exploring our own individual ethical systems and the challenges that can arise to behaving ethically at work. The emphasis will not be on current problems in the workplace, on case studies, or on the actions of others, but rather on drilling down to discover ways in which each of us might do more to cultivate a supportive work environment.
After engaging in discussion, writing, and brainstorming, participants should come away from this interactive workshop feeling more empowered (1) to engage nonconfrontationally in discussions of workplace issues with an ethical component and (2) to promote a workplace in which all individuals are treated with compassion and respect.
