Crisis Management Training Series
Offered by the Office of Strategic Security and Safety in collaboration with Public Safety, Environmental Health & Safety, and Center for Health Promotion and Wellness
The Purpose of the Crisis Coordinator Training Series is to promote campus awareness surrounded around four areas that focus on crisis management and prevention awareness. Training series will be on-going and consist of four modules with identified subject areas. Participants who complete the entire series will be awarded a certificate of completion from the Office of Strategic Security and Safety under the management of the Center for University Learning. Note: To be certified in this series you must also complete FEMA/NIMS on-line course ICS100 at training.fema.gov/IS

Module 1: Introduction to Crisis Coordinators Responsibilities
This module will introduce the participants to the overall concept of the Crisis Coordinator function. This course will provide participants with awareness to the possibility of a variety of incidents. This training will establish the response criteria for multiple hazards; incident such as severe weather, chemicals spills, fire, or acts of terrorism, etc. will be discussed. Participants will receive an overview of evacuation, shelter-in, and lock-down procedures as well as concepts for critical thinking.
Providing the tools necessary to identify an incident using a response criteria for responding to an incident or disaster create their individual documentation. Topics discussed in this session include: Redbooks, Contingency Planning and Out-sourcing, Crisis Teams, Equipment and Supplies, Call Trees design and activation, Building Specific Issues and Responsibilities.
Objectives:
• Participants will be able to describe and use the following
o Vest and Whistle
o Call Tree
o Evacuation route map
• Participants will be able to describe the Homeland Security initial responder concept
• Participants will be able to identify Crisis Coordinator Teams
• Participants will be able to identify the three methods of building use during any incident and describe an associated incident

Module 2: Emergency Operations
This module will share knowledge of what to do in an emergency or other critical incident, which separates survivors from victims. Learn what to do when required to respond, both from an individual perspective and in support of any public safety response. Know what information a Crisis Coordinator can gather to assist Fire Department, Law Enforcement, and Medical responders. Topics to include Disaster Medical Assistance, Search and Rescue, Bomb Threat Response, and the National Incident Management System (NIMS).
Objectives:
• Participants will be able to describe information needed by
o Fire Suppression
o Law Enforcement
o Medical Assistance
• Participants will be able to explain key benefits to NIMS
• Participants will be able to identify an Incident Command System
• Participants will be able to identify a Bomb Threat Report and explain the purpose of the report

Module 3: Terrorism and Incident Awareness
This module will give an overview of terrorism and incidents with a historical view enabling the participant to understand the different individual and group philosophies toward using terrorism as a tool for political gain. Understanding workplace violence issues and how to prepare you, both mentally and physically, to survive. Participants will view an Active Shooter Awareness and Prevention DVD and discuss actions to prevent, react and preserve life.
Objectives:
• Participants will be able to identify differences between international terrorism and domestic terrorism
• Participants will be able to identify “target hardening” techniques used to deter acts of terrorism
• Participants will be able to identify signs of workplace violence as well as describe response(s) such as the use of “Red Flag”
• Participants will be able to describe response(s) to an “active shooter” from the role of a Crisis Coordinator
This course is part of the Crisis Management Training Series. While you can register for this class only, participants who complete the series will receive a certificate of completion for the entire program.

Module 4: Life Safety – Part A – HazMat/MSDS/Fire Extinguisher
This part of the Life Safety module will address Hazardous Materials (HazMat) identification with examples of Material Safety Data (MSD) sheets and identification and hands on use of Fire Extinguishers. This training can be used every day in the participant’s workplace and at home.
Objectives:
• Participants will be able to distinguish the various type of fire extinguishers
• Participants will be familiar with the general principles of fire extinguisher use
• Participants will be able to safely utilize a fire extinguisher to fight an incipient-stage fire.
• Participants will be familiar with major categories of hazardous materials
• Participants will be able to recognize the purpose of the MSDS
• Participants will be able to identify and interpreter information from key sections of the MSDS

Module 4: Life Safety – Part B – First Aid/CPR/AED
This module will provide hands on training on Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), Automatic External Defibrillators (AED) and basic first aid. Participants will receive training in identifying and responding to medical emergencies. Participants will learn how, when and to what level they can provide life-saving and first aid response.
Participants will learn when to activate additional emergency response personnel. Training will also build confidence in participant’s hands on, initial response and treatment of common injuries in the workplace and around the home.
Objectives:
• Train participants to identify a cardiac crisis
• Train participants in lifesaving skill of CPR to assist victim in cardiac crisis
• Train participants in proper application and use of AED
• Explain response liability under “Good Samaritan”
• Explain response liability under Georgia Tort Claims Act and the Sovereign Immunity
• Train participants methods to control bleeding
• Identify and treat for shock
• Use of Immobilization and splinting techniques
• Response to muscle and bone injuries
